Abel Albert Dieken was born on March 28, 1918, in Marshall, to August and Amandine (Gesquire) Dieken. He grew up on the family farm north of Marshall. On July 10, 1940, he was united in marriage to Lorena McLaughlin at St. Clotilde Catholic Church in Green Valley. The couple farmed and raised their family near the Dieken home farm north of Marshall. Abel lived life to the fullest. He enjoyed stock car racing, motorcycling and water skiing. Later in life, he took up snow skiing as well. Abel enjoyed bowling and bowled into his late eighties. He also enjoyed fishing, especially his trips to Canada.
Abel died on Friday, December 30, 2011, at the Avera Morningside Heights Care Center in Marshall. He is survived by his wife, Lorena, of Marshall, son Ron (and Loretta) Dieken of Cottonwood, daughter Karolyn (and Jasper) Johnson of Loveland, CO, grandchildren Christopher Dieken, Anita (and Darrin) Eaton, Todd (and Cindy) Johnson, Bryan (and Laura) Johnson, Brent (and Rosalee) Johnson, great-grandchildren Brendin, Brittani, Bradi, Baylee, Miai, Naomi, Mattea, Noelle, Dalton, Braden, Tyler, Dylan, Ashley and Gavin. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Helen and brother John.
