Adelaide Kolander

Adelaide was born on April 13 1914 in West Bend IA to Ferdinand and Dorothea (Bauer) Stattleman. Her family later moved to Milroy MN where she attended school. After completing school she married Alfred Francis Spartz on November 20 1935. They had three children; David James Spartz born September 9 1936, Marilyn Joan Ann (Tegels) Spartz born December 18 1937 and Daniel Xavier Spartz born October 9 1940. Adelaide stayed at home and raised her children, while sewing and designing clothing for them with out the aide of patterns. She was an outstanding seamstress and took great pride in her master pieces that she created. Adelaide later worked as a book keeper for her husbands Pure Oil Gas Station and Country Store. She laid her husband Alfred to rest on March 24 1963. Adelaide continued to run their family business until the following spring when she sold it and moved to Marshall MN. Upon moving to Marshall she went to work for Kelco. On October 10 1964 Adelaide married Gail Kolander. She continued to work at Kelco until she retired in 1979. She laid her husband Gail to rest on April 11 1996. Adelaide was a devout Catholic who carried on her family’s devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, prayed the rosary daily, lived a Christian life and attended Mass. She was a member of Holy Redeemer Church. Adelaide loved to dance, watch birds, play bingo, spend time with her family and help others. She exemplified the meaning of a true friend. She spent many a day caring for her friends and family as they became ill and were unable to care for themselves. Adelaide was quick to do for others before doing for herself. Her smile could light up any room and her laugh was contagious. Adelaide took great pride in her family, grand children and great grand children, they were her life. Her artistic abilities were amazing, from sewing, drawing, creating paper people cut out chains and the list goes on. At a very young age she learned to wall paper and did some of the most beautiful work ever done. Adelaide was talented in so very many ways. Adelaide continued to live in her own home until she moved to Avera Morning Side Heights Care Center in December 2007. Adelaide joined our Savior Jesus Christ in Heaven on February 4 2008.
