Albert Peter Boogaard was born Sept. 19, 1915, in Browns Valley, MN, son of the late George and Johanna (Ruys) Boogaard, and moved with his family to Butler, MN. in 1928, where he grew up. As a young man, Albert worked in Civilian Conservation Corps camps, later moved to Minneota, where he worked for Dr. Kerr, a well known veterinarian, in his chicken hatchery. He then purchased a cement block plant in Minneota and went into his own construction business there until his retirement. He moved to Ironwood to be near his son and his family in December, 2004.
Albert was a member of St. Edward Catholic Church in Minneota. An accomplished, licensed pilot, he enjoyed flying his own airplane in his earlier years. He possessed a tremendous sense of humor.
On July 1, 1939, Albert was united in marriage to Margaret Verstraete in Ghent, MN. She preceded him in death in April, 2000.
Albert died at Westgate Living Center in Ironwood, Michigan Wednesday, December 30.
Surviving are a brother, Clarence, of Marshall, MN.; a sister, Marie Van Erp, Frazee, MN.; four grandchildren, Curt Boogaard, Ironwood, MI, Gwen (and Kevin) Hebrank, Ham Lake, MN., Kelly Boogaard, Ironwood, MI, and Gail (Chris) Ezell, Maple Grove, MN.; four great-grandchildren, Samantha and Nevin Hebrank and Kierra and Miles Ezell; his daughter-in-law, Kathleen Boogaard, Ironwood, MI; a brother-in-law-and-sister-in-law, Gerart and Margaret Verstraete, Ghent; and two sisters-in-law, Evelyn and Rosella Boogaard, both of Osakis, MN.
He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Edward, on Feb. 13, 2007; an infant granddaughter, Christine, in 1962; four brothers, Con, William, Henry and John; and two sisters, Helen Van Erp and Wilma Harris.
