Albert Alois Van Damme was born on November 23, 1917, in Lyon County to August and Augusta (Crombeke) Van Damme. He grew up on the family farm and attended Swede Prairie Country School. On November 29, 1944, he was united in marriage to Ardell Stensrud at St. Eloi Catholic Church. Albert was very passionate about farming, especially his livestock and pet dogs. He also enjoyed his Canadian fishing trips and coffee friends. He died on Saturday, July 4, 2009, at the Prairie Home Hospice House in Marshall after a lengthy battle with cancer.
He is survived by his children Colette (and Ron) Grussing of Clara City, MN, Pam (and Brian) Heldt of Dexter, MI, Joel (and Donna) Van Damme of Russell, Jim (and Vicki) Van Damme of Lynd, Jackie (and David) Abel of Watertown, SD, 20 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, sisters Annie Mathiowetz of Marshall and Mary Fier of Taunton. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ardell, sons Neil and Douglas, daughters Diane and Carol Ann and sister Elsie Kopitski.
In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to the Prairie Home Hospice House in Marshall.
