Alice Jean Stone

Alice J. Stone age 83 of Tracy, MN died Wednesday, March 12, 2008 at the Good Samaritan Home in Pipestone, MN. Services will be 10:30 AM Monday, March 17, 2008 at the Presbyterian Church in Tracy. Visitation will be from 4:00 until 7:00 PM at the Almlie Funeral Home in Tracy, with a prayer service at 7:00 PM and continuing one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday. Interment will be at the Tracy City Cemetery. The Almlie Funeral Home of Tracy is handling the arrangements. Alice Jean Stone was born October 4, 1924 to George and Bertha (Finrud) Howe in Tracy, MN. She was baptized and confirmed in the Christian faith and attended Tracy Public Schools, graduating, as an honor student, from Tracy High School in 1942. She was chosen Miss Tracy of 1942 and crowned by Governor Harold Stassen. As a young woman she was employed as a secretary for the Tracy Produce Company until 1946. On February 24, 1946 Alice married Galend Stone in Tracy and they made their home in Tracy. While in Tracy she was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, serving as secretary. Alice was also a member of the Order of Eastern Star, a Brownie Scout Leader and was active in various church activities. In 1957 they moved to Redwood Falls, MN where she continued to take an active role in her children’s activities in church, scouting and Jobs Daughters. Alice also worked part time at an accounting firm. They moved to Rochester, MN in 1965 and Alice went to work for the Weich-Selbaum & Associates, Architectural firm, where she remained until her retirement in 1980. In 1987 Alice and her husband moved back to their Lake Shetek home near Tracy, where she continued to enjoy her hobbies of fishing, walking, reading, golfing and entertaining her family as often as she could. Alice was a member of the Tracy Presbyterian Church. Alice and her husband moved into Tracy’s O’Brien Court Apartments in September of 2006 and in December of 2007 Alice became a resident of the Good Samaritan Home in Pipestone, MN where she died Wednesday, March 12, 2008 at the age of 83. Alice is survived by her one son, Bill (Sue) Stone of Pipestone, MN; two daughters, Connie (Byron) Howard of Vancouver, WA and Gayla Stier of Grand Meadow, MN; seven grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; one sister, Ardis Peterson of Rochester, MN; one sister-in-law, Dorothy Howe of Manly, IA; nieces and nephews. Her husband, Galend, parents, one brother, Clarence Howe and one brother-in-law, Lee Peterson preceded her in death.
