Andrew J. âAndyâ Wiersma was born on July 23, 1982 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, the son of Daniel J. and Carleen Binder Wiersma. He attended and graduated from Bethany Academy in Bloomington, MN in 2001. At Bethany Academy he was awarded 17 varsity letters in soccer, basketball and baseball and he was All-Conference in the three sports. He was also awarded the âEagleâ award for exemplifying the ideals and Characteristics of Christ Jesus and the school.
Andy attended and graduated from Southwest Minnesota State University in Marshall, MN with a degree in Mathematics. Andy played 4 years on the varsity basketball team where he was given the âMustangâ award for best exemplifying the SMSU student athlete. He was Homecoming King in 2005 and President of Campus CruSade for Christ between 2005 and 2006.
He was currently the Youth Pastor at the Evangelical Free Church in Marshall where he encouraged, discipiled and ministered youth and college students in the Christian faith. He has helped lead mission teams to Africa, China, Mexico, and New Orleans. He was constantly leading Bible studies, organizing mission trips and playing games.
He died on July 27, 2008 in a car accident while headed to Bible study with a group of youths.
He issurvived by his parents; Daniel and Carleen Wiersma of Plymouth, MN; brothers: Brian (Krystal) of Watertown, MN and Luke of Bismark, ND. He was preceeded in death by his grandparents; Otto and Melva Binder and Daniel and Esther Wiersma.
He is greatly missed, but we know he resides with Jesus Christ who is our comfort and salvation.
