Arianna Peters age 96 of Chandler, MN died Thursday, September 2, 2010 at the Edgebrook Care Center in Edgerton, MN. Services will be 10:30 AM Tuesday, September 7, 2010 at the Christian Reformed Church in Chandler. Visitation will be from 6:00 until 8:00 PM Monday, September 6, 2010 at the Chandler Funeral Chapel. Interment will be in the Chandler Memorial Cemetery. The Chandler Funeral Association is handling the arrangements.
Arianna Peters was born November 23, 1913 to Peter and Johanna (Vander Meer) Vander Lugt in Perkins, IA. She was baptized and confessed her faith in the Christian Reformed Church. As a young girl, her family moved to Minnesota and Arianna attended Leota Christian School. At the age of fifteen, she began playing as organist for the Leota Christian Reformed Church.
In 1933 Arianna married Harry Peters in the Leota Christian Reformed Church made their home in Primghar, IA. There they owned and operated a Gambleâs store. They then moved near Ruthton, MN for nine years, before moving to a farm near Slayton, MN. In 1949, they moved to a farm south of Chandler, MN and farmed there for the next twenty two years. During that time they moved to California from 1963 to 1965, but in the end, they missed the farm and came back to it.
In 1972 they retired from the farm into Chandler and Arianna worked as the custodian at the Chandler Christian School for seventeen years. She then went to work as janitor in the Chandler Bank and continued to work for many more years. In 1998 she moved into a condo in Chandler and remained there until she entered the Edgebrook Care Center in Edgerton, MN.
Arianna was a member of the Chandler Christian Reformed Church, where she was a member of the Dorcas Society, active in the church womenâs groups and was the church organist for forty five years, which she passed on to her daughter, Pat. She enjoyed playing the organ very much and called it her, âministry in musicâ. She also taught piano lessons for thirty years and was a member of the Chandler Senior Citizens. Besides music and her church, her family was her greatest love, spending time with them and cooking and baking. Her grandchildren all fondly remember her for her baking, especially her buns.
In February of 2004 Arianna became a resident of Edgebrook Care Center in Edgerton, where she died, surrounded by her loving family, on Thursday, September 2, 2010 at the age of 96.
Arianna is survived by her one son, George (Lila) Peters of Cutlerville, MI; five daughters, Lavonne (Wendale) Vander Broek of Chandler, MN, Mary Ann (Lester) Zwart of Irvine, CA, Carolyn (Rodney) Dierenfeld of Willmar, MN, Leann (Steven) Tinklenberg of Sioux Falls, SD, and Patricia (David) Holm of Chandler, MN; twenty three grandchildren; sixty great grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; two sisters, Nellie Lubben of Edgerton, MN and Christine Lubben of Holland, MI; many nieces, nephews and friends.
Her husband, Harry, daughter, Johanna Vander Haar, granddaughter, Cindy Dierenfeld, great grandsons, Jeremy Nibbelink and Zachary Mills, four brothers, Willie, Hubert, Peter and Arie Vander Lugt, five sisters, Nellie, an infant, Margaret Van Dyke, Johanna Lanser, Elizabeth De Kam, Marie Fransen, all preceded her in death.
