Bertha Arlene (Lamb) Hodges was born on May 4, 1944, in Clark, SD, to Lyle and Bertha Warkenthien. She grew up in Willow Lake, SD, and graduated from Willow Lake High School. Arlene began college at South Dakota State University and later graduated from there in 1996. On February 8, 1964, she was united in marriage to David Hodges at St. Thomas Moore Catholic Church in Brookings, SD. David was a teacher by profession and The Hodges family lived in many communities in Eastern South Dakota and Southwestern Minnesota. In 1982 they moved to Tyler where they lived until Davidâs death in 1994. Arlene then moved to the Brookings area and in 2003 she came to live in Marshall. Arlene loved painting. She took painting classes early in her life and was always very involved with various arts communities where she lived. She painted both commercially and fine art and eventually taught painting to other artists. She was also very active with church organizations including Council of Catholic Women, as a longtime CCD teacher and most recently as the faith formation coordinator at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church. Arlene enjoyed gardening, especially flower gardening, and cooking. She will be remembered for her special homemade breads.
