Mass of Christian Burial for Barbara Brewers, 88, of Marshall, will be at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 28, 2019, at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. with a CCW Rosary at 4:00 p.m. and a Parish Prayer Service at 5:00 p.m. at the Rehkamp Horvath Funeral Home in Marshall. Visitation will continue from 9:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m. Thursday at the Funeral Home. Interment will follow the service at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Marshall.
Barbara Marie (Girard) Brewers was born on October 21, 1930, in Marshall to Ambrose and Marie (DeBuscher) Girard. She was married to Robert John Brewers at Holy Redeemer Church on October 18, 1950. They started their family of six children, farming for 19 years before they moved into town in December of 1969. Barbara worked at the Marshall Lanes for 25 years, ending her service with a parade in her name: “Barbara Brewers Day!†She enjoyed bowling, participating in Women’s League and Mixed Doubles. Barbara also enjoyed golfing in the Ladies League and Couples League for 20 years, where she won many mentions in the newspaper along with many trophies. She was a member of the Council of Catholic Women. Barbara enjoyed traveling with her husband, Bob, visiting the West Coast, Montana, and Germany in 1978 for three weeks, where they had the time of their lives! The couple also spent several winters in Florida with their son Allan and daughter-in-law Jeanette. Her family learned by her example of unfailing love, grace, and compassion. Barbara delighted everyone she knew with her beautiful smile, witty humor, and homemade chocolate chip cookies!
Barbara passed away peacefully with family by her side on Saturday, March 23, 2019, at Avera Morningside Heights Care Center in Marshall. Barbara is survived by her husband of 68 years, Robert Brewers of Marshall; children Donald (Darlys) Brewers of Marshall, Allan (Jeanette) Brewers of Tallahassee, FL, Brian (Dawn) Brewers of Cottonwood, Stan (Rebecca) Brewers of Marshall, Jeff (Evelyn) Brewers of Marshall, and Brenda Voges of Crosslake; grandchildren Angie (Courtney) Hughes, Tony Brewers, Katie Brewers, Derik Brewers, Darrin (Heather) Brewers, Keith Brewers, Adam Brewers, Josh (Marie) Brewers, Ashley (Jesse) Smallfield, Nicole (Tim) Finch, Jeff Brewers Jr., Samantha Brewers, Mikkel Brewers, Nathan VanPatten, Jon VanPatten, Jordan Voges, Megan Voges, Tanya Duppong, Jeremy Simonsen, Wesley Simonsen, and Lee Simonsen; great-grandchildren Jackson, Jacob, Gavin, Jordy, Macy, Owen, Zach, Tristen, Conner, and Landon; and many other relatives and friends.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents Ambrose and Marie Girard; siblings Rita Laleman, Vincent Girard, Marion Boerboom, and Julianne Wyffels; and granddaughter Stacy Brewers.
