Barbara Prinsen age 96 of Slayton, MN died Monday, August 29, 2011 at the Golden Living Center in Slayton. Services will be 10:30 AM Thursday, September 1, 2011 at the First Reformed Church in Slayton. Visitation will be from 5:00 until 8:00 PM Wednesday, August 31, 2011 at the church in Slayton and continuing one hour prior to the service on Thursday. A luncheon will be served immediately following the service, with the interment taking place afterwards at the Chandler Memorial Cemetery. The Chandler Funeral Association is handling the arrangements.

Barbara Prinsen was born December 4, 1914 to Will and Diena (Westenberg) Zwart on a farm west of Leota, MN in Rock County. She was baptized and made confession of faith in the Leota Reformed Church. As a young girl, she attended country School.
On November 17, 1936 Barbara married John Prinsen at her parentâs home. They made their home in Chandler, MN after their marriage and later moved to Edgerton, MN. In 1949 they moved to a farm east of Chandler and retired from farming back in Edgerton for several years, before moving to Slayton, MN in 1957. Over the years Barbara was a housewife and mother and also did housework for several families for many years.
Barbara was a member of the First Reformed Church in Slayton and had been active in the church womenâs groups. She enjoyed reading, fishing, playing cards, crossword puzzles, and was an avid Twins baseball fan, but she especially loved visiting with family and friends.
On August 25, 2011 she became a resident of the Golden Living Center in Slayton, where she died, surrounded by her loving children, on Monday, August 29, 2011 at the age of 96.
Barbara is survived by her daughter, Donna (Harvey) DeKruif of Chandler, MN; son, Bill (Jim Wagner) Prinsen of Eden Prairie, MN; four grandchildren, Rod (Val) DeKruif of Milwaukee, WI, Brenda (Pete) Boever of Morris, MN, Debra (Jeff) Trometer of Tomball, TX and Douglas (Cindy) DeKruif of Sacred Heart, MN; five great grandchildren, Tim (Amanda) Trometer, Michael Trometer, Bess Boever, Jackson Boever, and Cassandra DeKruif; one brother, Willard Zwart of Chaska, MN; two sisters-in-law, Grace Prinsen of Artesia, CA and Alyce Zwart of Corsica, SD; nieces, nephews and many friends.
Her husband, John, her parents, three brothers, Gary, Dick (Beulah) and Melvin Zwart, two sisters-in-law, Gladys Zwart and Hermina (John) Tinklenberg, and two brothers-in-law, Tom (Jacoba) Prinsen and Ray Prinsen preceded her in death.
