Bonita Louise (Matthys) Cuypers was born on June 18, 1932, in Marshall, to Wesley and Leona (Frost) Cuypers. She grew up in Marshall and graduated from Marshall High School. Bonnie worked for a time as a receptionist at the Weiner Memorial Hospital in Marshall. On May 8, 1954, she was united in marriage to Denis Matthys. The couple farmed and raised their family near Marshall until moving to a farm south of Cottonwood in 1968. Bonnie enjoyed baking, quilting and sewing, taking care of her flower garden and many house plants. She also enjoyed doing puzzle, shopping with her daughters and dining out. Bonnie was most passionate about spending time with her family.
Bonnie died on Tuesday, December 9, 2014, surrounded by family, at the Prairie Home Hospice House in Marshall. She is survived by her husband Denis Matthys of Cottonwood, children Cindy (and Raymond) Louwagie of Cottonwood, Greg Matthys of Marshall, Susan (and Paul) Guza of Minneota, Dave (and Joyce) Matthys of Waseca, Brad (and Sharon) Matthys of Cottonwood, Mark (and Brenda) Matthys of Cottonwood, Amy (and Phil) Mauland of Cottonwood, 17 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, sisters Janet (and Richard) Doom of Marshall and Mary Matthys of Apple Valley, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Wesley and Leona Cuypers, daughters Cherie and Dawn, siblings Joanne Cuypers, Ronald Cuypers and Maydene Cuypers.
