Bruce Allen Mikkelson was born in Marshall, MN, on July 12, 1955, to Verdin and Patricia Mikkelson. He was baptized and confirmed at Hope Lutheran Church in Minneota. He graduated from Minneota High School in 1973.
Bruce began his legacy of brickwork while working with his father at the age of 13. After three years of apprenticeship with Carl Christianson, he was laying block and building houses at the age of 16. After he graduated from high school, Bruce lived in Alexandria, MN; Austin, TX, and Washington, D.C., laying brick and leaving masterpieces of block and stone work as a mark of his presence. Bruce returned to Minnesota and resided in Granite Falls, MN, for a period of time before moving up to Henning, MN, where he had been residing since 1998. He continued to lay block until his illness stopped him from working in 2003.
Bruce died in Fargo, ND, on July 15, 2009. He was preceded in death by his father, Verdin "Mort" Mikkelson, his brother Bert Mikkelson, and his sister, Pamela Peterson. He is survived by his mother Patricia Riley (Clarkfield Care Center), sisters Paula (Darvin) Heldt of Lester Prairie, MN, Connie (Troy) Mikkelson of Mohave Valley, AZ, niece Renee Grimes, nephews Joshua Peterson and Michael Heldt, three great-nieces and one great-nephew.
