Carole Jean Cassens

Carole J. Cassens age 79 of Westbrook, MN died Thursday, May 14, 2015 at the Sanford Medical Center in Sioux Falls, SD. A memorial service will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday, May 20, 2015 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Westbrook. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday. A luncheon will be served immediately following the service in the church social hall, with the interment then held at 2:00 PM in the Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Slayton, MN. The Almlie-Horvath Funeral Home of Westbrook is handling the arrangements. Carole Jean Cassens was born August 8, 1935 to George and Elizabeth (Gerdes) Bremer on the family farm near Fulda, MN in Bondin Township, Murray County. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and attended Fulda Public Schools, graduating from Fulda High School in 1953. On September 23, 1954 Carole married Ardell Cassens in the Fulda Lutheran Church. They made their home in Worthington, MN for several years, before moving to Slayton, MN. In September of 1962 they moved to Westbrook, MN. Carole worked as a secretary for the Avoca Elevator and when they moved to Westbrook she became Housekeeping Supervisor at the Good Samaritan Center, a position she held for more than twenty five years. Carole was a long time member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Westbrook and active in the church women’s groups. She enjoyed flower gardening, crocheting, reading and caring for the residents of the Good Samaritan home, but her greatest love was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Following a recent automobile accident, Carole became a patient of the Sanford Medical Center in Sioux Falls, SD, where she died, surrounded by her loving family, on Thursday, May 14, 2015 at the age of 79. Carole is survived by her husband of 60 years, Ardell Cassens of Westbrook, MN; three sons, Bruce (Diane) Cassens of Gilbert, AZ, Brian (Kerry) Cassens of Grimes, IA and Brent Cassens of Westbrook, MN; four grandchildren, Bryan, Whitney, Stacy, and Cory; ten great grandchildren; three brothers, Orville (Kathy) Bremer of Cottondale, FL, George (Mary) Bremer of Miami, FL and Norbert (Sallee) Bremer of Avoca, MN; one brother-in-law, Dave McDonald of Canby, MN; many nieces, nephews and friends. Her parents, one granddaughter, Amy Cassens and sister, Margene McDonald preceded her in death.
