Carolyn Anne Schmidt Karels

Carolyn Anne Karels was born December 13, 1939, in Chandler, to Elmer and Marie (Nicholsen) Schmidt. She was united in marriage to Jerome Henry Joseph Karels on November 28, 1964. Together they raised two daughters, Barbara Carol and LuMarie Ann, and a grandson Jeffrey James (Karels) Brogaard. Carolyn died on Monday, December 26, 2016, at the Avera Marshall Regional Medical Center in Marshall after courageously battling illnesses since 2008. Carolyn is survived by her daughters, Barbara Gottskalkson of Sioux Falls, SD and LuMarie (John) Kral of New Ulm; grandson Jeffrey (Kathryn) Brogaard of Savage; 7 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, sister Dorothy Yochem of Marshall; many nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents Elmer and Marie Schmidt; husband Jerome Karels; brother William Schmidt; sisters Helen Rogge and Mayrleen Bankord; and niece Janet Rogge in infancy.
