Marlys was born on November 15, 1931 in Oskosh Township, Yellow Medicine County, to Leo and Christine (Kockelman) Kack. She was baptized, confirmed, and attended elementary school in St. Leo, MN and graduated from Canby High School and Minneapolis Business College. In 1957, she and Loren Brooks of New Orleans, LA were married in Canby. Loren died in a military aircraft accident in 1965. In 1968, she and James Wolverton of Tulsa, OK were married in Fairborn, OH. Before marriage and after her children were grown, Marlys worked as a medical secretary. She was always active in volunteer work and over the years was involved with Air Force thrift shops, Cub Scouts, and developmentally handicapped children. Since moving to Marshall in 1996, she was active in the Avera Marshall Auxiliary; and spent many happy hours working in their thrift shop. She enjoyed travel and visited almost all the 50 states and many foreign countries. She also enjoyed reading and doing jigsaw puzzles.
She died Wednesday, July 24, 2013 at Minneota Manor Health Care Center.
She is survived by her daughter, Lauren (Jeff) Agnew of Beavercreek, OH; sons, Randall Brooks of Dallas, TX and Loren Brooks of Alexandria, VA; brother, Myron âBudâ (Julie) Kack of Minneota; five grandsons and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Bonnie Dwyer; and both husbands.
