Charlene Marie (Haas) Callens was born to Patrick and Agnes (Berdan) Haas on May 2, 1933, at their home in Minneota. She passed away peacefully on January 14, 2022, at the age of 88 surrounded by family at Heritage Pointe in Marshall, MN.
Charlene was baptized and confirmed in St. Edward Catholic Church. She attended grade school at St. Edward and graduated high school from St. Francis in Little Falls, MN. Charlene worked alongside her parents at the Haas Bakery in Minneota until she met the love of her life, Antone Victor Callens.
Antone and Charlene were united in marriage on December 31, 1960, at St. Edward Catholic Church. They were blessed with seven children, 25 grandchildren, and 19 great-grandchildren. She became a widow when Antone passed away on August 30, 1982. She lost her oldest son, Anthony on January 9, 1988. Charlene quietly accepted what life handed to her and trusted in the Lord to see her through. Charlene continued to live on the family farm until she moved to Minneota in 1989. In her later years, she lived in the Madison Avenue Apartments, until recently when she had moved to Heritage Pointe in Marshall.
Charlene grew up strong in her Catholic faith. She was a devoted supporter and active member of the many St. Edward Church functions. In addition to her love for her family, she loved to bake, cook meals for the family, gardening, embroidering, listening to her music on the radio, and writing letters to her family and friends. Charlene loved to visit about the good ole days going to Lake Miltona with her family as a child. She enjoyed taking their seven children to Lake Miltona to their grandparent’s cabin in the summertime.
Charlene is survived by children Fred (Sandra) Callens of Minneota; David (JoAnne) Callens of Marshall; Andrea Callens Bakker of Hutchinson, Joseph (Jean) Callens of Minneota; James (Kimberly) Callens of Minneota; Charles (Rhonda) Callens of Minneota; 25 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; sibling Michelle Bailey, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents Patrick and Agnes, her husband Antone, son Anthony, her sister Patsy Haas, brother-in-law Michael Callens, in-laws John and Agnes Citrowske, Albert and Margaret Callens, Harry Sr. and Marie Guza.
In lieu of flowers, memorial preferred to St. Edward Catholic Church, St. Edward Catholic School, or Birthright in Marshall.
Blessed be her memory.
