Clarence Theodore Buysse was born on June 26, 1928, in Westerheim Township to Charles and Mary (Bot) Buysse. He grew up on the family farm. Clarence had a lifelong passion for learning. He attended grade school in Ghent. He later obtained his GED and took courses at SMSU in Marshall. Clarence was a talented musician and played the violin, mandolin and harmonica. As a young man, he played with his brothers and a friend in the âAnytimersâ Band. He was drafted into the U.S. Army and served during the Korean War as a Platoon Runner, a Medic, and he ended his service as a Cook. After his honorable discharge, he returned to the family farm. On August 12, 1958, he was united in marriage to Barbara Hoffman at St. Leo Catholic Church in St. Leo. The family farmed and raised their family in Minneota. Clarence enjoyed traveling and especially family trips as he was able to see the world and continue learning. He also served on the Minneota School Board for 14 years and as a Lyon County Commissioner for 17 years. In January, 2020, Clarence moved to Avera Morningside Heights Care Center in Marshall. He later moved to the Minnesota Veteranâs Home in Luverne.
Clarence died on Thursday, July 29, 2021, at the Minnesota Veterans Home in Luverne. He is survived by his wife, Barbara, of Minneota; daughter Deborah (and Tom) Taylor of Burnsville, grandchildren Megan (and Kyle) Gustafson, Maddie (and Cam) Klade and Max Taylor; son Thomas (and Laura) Buysse of Minneota, grandchildren Melissa (and Kory) Kelsteloot, Heather (and Charles) Green, Matthew (and Kaley) Buysse, Ellen (and Jordan) Longtin; daughter Suzanne (and Bill) Anseeuw of Canby, grandchildren Brandi Anseeuw (and Gid), Amanda (and Wendlin) Berger, Chance (and Brittany) Anseeuw; son John (and Wendi) Buysse of Lewisville, TX, grandchildren Alayna Buysse and Paul Buysse; daughter Paula (and J.D.) Pesch of Minneota, grandchildren Zach, Charlie, Henry, Ted and Elle Pesch; great-grandchildren Hadley, Owen, Avery, Braelyn, Jameson, Wyatt, Emma, Gage, Kobe, Ryker, Maddox, Atlee, Rayne, Cael and Braylee; brother Donald (and Pat) Buysse of York Springs, PA, sisters-in-law Elaine Buysse of Ghent and Maryann Buysse of Minneota, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Agnes and brothers Bernard, Emil, Harold and Ed.
