Clarice Sylvia (Kompelien) Thostenson was born on March 21, 1916, in Swede Prairie Township to Oscar and Vendla (Lindstrom) Kompelien. She grew up and attended country school in rural Minneota. Before she was married, Clarice worked for local families by helping care for their children. On February 22, 1948, she was united in marriaGe to Clarence Thostenson at the Hope Lutheran Church Parsonage.The couple made their home and raised their family in Swede Prairie Township. In 1980, they moved into Minneota. She moved to tHe Madison Ave Apartments in 1999, and the Minneota Manor in 2006. Clarice was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She loved baking, gardening, sewing and making special foods for family. Her specialties included homemade buns, bread and lefse. Her family was very important to her. She cherished her time she could spend with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Clarice was a member of the Hope Lutheran Ladiesâ Aid and Homemakers Club.
Clarice died on Sunday, November 9, 2008, at the Minneota Manor in Minneota. She is survived by her children Gary (and Marge) Thostenson of Montevideo, Bruce Thostenson of Eagan, Ron (and Tammy) Thostenson of Minneota, grandchildren Erica (and Chris) Krueger of Atwater, Jeff Thostenson of Little Rock, AR, Justin (special friend Megan Schultz) Thostenson of Montevideo, Jennifer (and Jason) Johnson and great-grandson Chase of Lake Crystal, Julie (and Kurt) Fier and great-grandson Destin of Taunton and Joe (and Abby) Thostenson of Minneota, siblings Doris (and Gus) Lootens, Delmo (and Marge) Kompelien, sisters-in-law Cora Tollefson and Lena Thostenson, many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence, three sisters and one brother.
