Colleen Moorse

d. May 27, 2014

Colleen Mae Friend was born on June 26, 1927, in Marshall, to Harold and Hazel (Larson) Friend. As a child, she moved with her family to Hanley Falls where her parents operated a restaurant. They later moved to Minneota. Here they owned and operated the Roundup and later a Drive-In. Colleen graduated from high school in Minneota in 1945, classmates with her future husband, Leo Moorse. Although they were classmates, they began dating later as the result of a blind date, which became 63 years of marriage. They were united in marriage on February 9, 1949, at St. Edward Catholic Church in Minneota. Colleen worked at the Minneota Bank for a time before her marriage. She and Leo later farmed and raised their family south of Minneota. Colleen will be remembered for her baking and her “goodie drawer.” Colleen enjoyed gardening her flowers, crocheting and embroidery work. She also was an avid fan of the Twins and Vikings, sharing this interest with her brother Chuck and Leo. Colleen and Leo in their spare time enjoyed traveling and fishing, especially in Hawaii and Alaska. She was an active member of St. Edward Catholic Church and the Joan of Arc Society. Colleen died on Tuesday, May 27, 2014, at the Minneota Manor in Minneota. She is survived by her son Mike (and Lin) Moorse of Minneota, daughter Linda (and Rich) Kerr of Marshall, daughter-in-law Beth Moorse of Minneota, grandchildren Debi (and Greg) Schaffer, Derek (and Dawn) Moorse, Wendy Vierstraete, Luke (and Marla) Moorse, Zachary, Colton and Caleb Moorse, great-grandchildren Brenden, Aiden, Maddy, Jordan, Hidie, Morgan, Ella, Jade, Jaxson, Jewelz, Dallas, Cheyenne, Kinsey, Lilly and Wyatt, brother Chuck (and Lucille) Friend, step-brother Orrin (and Barb) Stevens, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents Harold and Hazel, husband Leo, children Karen, Patrick, Thomas and Steven, step-mother Lillian Friend, and step-sister Elayne Korteum.
