Cornelia âNellieâ Mary (Kerkvliet) Caron was born on December 4, 1910, in Larchwood, IA, to Cornelius and Cornelia (Dubbeldee) Kerkvliet. She received her First Communion on May 1, 1919, in Elkton, SD. Later she moved with her family to Marshall where she attended St. Josephâs Academy. In 1933, she was united in marriage to Medrick Dandurand. Medrick died in 1938. In 1956, she was united in marriage to Alfred Caron. Alfred died in 1978. For 57 years, Nellie worked as a checker for Super Valu, later County Fair and ultimately County Market. She enjoyed travelling and visited nearly every state. She also enjoyed playing cards and dancing. Nellie died on Thursday, August 28, 2008, at Patricia Court in Marshall.
She is survived by her son Armand (Dianna) Dandurand of Minneota, daughters Mary (Raymond) Halbur of Marshall and Margaret (Russell) Gollmer of Marshall, seven grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren, sisters Mabel Grong of Marshall and Mary Kuntz of Florida, brothers Harold Kerkvliet of Owatonna and Richard Kerkvliet of St. Paul and Daughter-in-law Mae Dandurand of Marshall. She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands Medrick Dandurand and Alfred Caron, son Melvin Dandurand, brother Raymond Kerkvliet and sisters Alice Allen, Florence Braun and Lucille Mahoney.
