Corrine Marie (Stassen) Nelson was born on June 2, 1929, in Marshall, to Joseph and Justine (Erdman) Stassen. She grew up in Marshall and graduated from Marshall High School and was later united in marriage to Howard Rohrs. After Howardâs death, she was married to Werner Nelson. Corrine worked at a variety of jobs including as a clerk for the S & L Store, for many years she washed and ironed clothes for residents at the Marshall Nursing Home, and was a cook at Holy Redeemer School. Corrine enjoyed ceramics. She and her daughter, Jane, taught ceramic making classes and displayed their work at many craft shows. She also enjoyed playing with her puppy, Grace, crossword and jigsaw puzzles and watching TV, especially the Minnesota Vikings (and when they won on Saturday, December 24th, who was there in spiritâ¦.Corrine!)
Corrine died on Thursday, December 22, 2011, at the Prairie Home Hospice House following a courageous battle with MS and lymphoma.
She is survived by her daughters Mary (and Reed) Schmidt of Atwater and Jane Nelson Como of Marshall, grandchildren Megan Daun, Emily Daun, Mackenzie âMacâ Como, Theodore Como, Lyle Schmidt, four step-grandchildren, 12 step great-grandchildren, brother-in-law Duaine Breyfogle, puppy Grace, grand-puppies Sara and Radar, many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Howard, sons Joseph and Jon, siblings Joan Curwick and Sharon Breyfogle, brother-in-law Bernard âBudâ Curwick and puppies Midget and Mitzi.
