Dale R. Nelson age 81 of Westbrook, MN died Friday, December 12, 2008 at the Good Samaritan Home in Westbrook. Services will be 2:00 PM Wednesday, December 17, 2008 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Westbrook. The Visitation will be from 4:00 until 8:00 PM Tuesday, December 16, 2008 at the Almlie Funeral Home in Westbrook with a prayer service at 7:00 PM and continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday. Interment will be at the Westbrook Cemetery.
Dale Rodney Nelson was born February 14, 1927 to Victor and Frieda (Rupp) on a farm in Des Moines River Township, Murray County, MN. He was baptized on January 10, 1929 and confirmed on July 27, 1941 in the Lutheran faith. Dale attended Country School District # 108 and then worked on the family farm south of Westbrook and Dovray, MN.
On March 20, 1949 Dale married Norma Einertson at the Old Westbrook Lutheran Church and they made their home on a farm south of Storden, MN for thirteen years, before they moved to a farm south of Westbrook in 1962. They remained on this farm until 1981 when they moved into Westbrook, MN. Dale farmed most of his life, but also in his younger years, he and his brother, Jay, ran a Dray business together for couple years. In 1982, after retiring from farming, he went to work for the Westbrook Good Samaritan Center in Westbrook as a Maintenance Supervisor for eighteen and half years.
Dale was a past member of Amo Lutheran Church and a current member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Westbrook. He served on the church council and ushered at both Amo and Trinity Lutheran. He assisted with putting on hobby shows for the Westbrook Hospital as a fund raiser for many years and enjoyed woodcarving as his personal hobby. He received several awards over the years, including Best of Show for his carvings at the Clay County Fair in Spencer, IA.
In October of 2008 Dale became a resident of the Good Samaritan Center in Westbrook, where he died Friday, December 12, 2008 at the age of 81.
Dale is survived by his one son, Steve (Jan) Nelson of Westbrook, MN; one daughter, Lynn (Steve) Peterson of Tracy, MN; four grandchildren, Tasha, Luke, Amy and Beth Nelson; one sister, Evelyn Yahnke of Westbrook, MN; one brother, Howard Nelson of Westbrook, MN; one sister-in-law, Ada Matz of Walters, MN; many nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
His wife, Norma, parents, and one brother, Jay preceded him in death.
