Daniel Ray Haugen was born on July 19, 1957, in Watertown, SD, to Gerald and Joan (Flanagan) Haugen. The family lived in Mitchell, SD, until moving to Marshall in 1967. Dan graduated from Marshall High School in 1975. He obtained his Bachelorâs Degree from the University of Minnesota and later his Law Degree from the University of South Dakota in Vermillion, SD. Dan practiced law in the Twin Cities. He later went to work doing underwriting for the Bank of America. After that office closed, he worked for Superior Exteriors Property Management in St. Paul. Dan moved back to Marshall in 2014. He worked as a substitute teacher for the Marshall School District. All this time, Dan was a faithful son. He visited and helped his mother regularly. He was very intelligent and enjoyed history, ancestry and reading. Dan belonged to the Marshall Jaycees and enjoyed playing softball.
Dan suffered a stroke on September 17, 2017. After a series of related health complications, he died on Friday, March 9, 2018, at the Minneota Manor Healthcare Center. He is survived by his mother, Joan Haugen of Marshall, sister Karen (and Ron) Hoflock of Marshall, their children Jared (and Justina,) Justin, Jorden and Jenna, sister Diane (and George) Van Overbeke of Meridian, ID, their sons Jacob and Matthew, sister Deb (and Brian) Schroeder of Marshall, their children Christopher (and Abby), (great-niece and nephews Sophia, Logan and Parker,) Tiffany (and Matt,) (great nephew Hunter,) and Marissa, brother John Haugen of Sioux Falls, brother Kevin Haugen of Ooltewah, TN, (his children Brock (Jessica) and Taylor) and brother Tom Haugen (and special friend Gretchen) of Burnsville. He was preceded in death by his father, Gerald.
