Daniel Mark Metz

A memorial service for Daniel Mark Metz, 67, of Minneota will take place on Thursday, July 18, 2024 at the Horvath Remembrance Center in Marshall beginning at 2:00 p.m. A public visitation will begin two hours prior to the memorial service at the Remembrance Center. Daniel Mark Metz was born on March 4, 1957 to Walter and Deloris (Molitor) Metz in Slayton. He spent his early years in Slayton until his family moved to Marshall. Daniel graduated from Marshall Senior High School in the spring of 1975. Upon graduation he continued his education at Pipestone Votech. He married his high school sweetheart Kathy Kirkland on June 18, 1977. Together the couple has one son Jason Metz. 

Once he moved back to Southwest Minnesota Daniel had various jobs. He was a mechanic at Montgomery Ward, a greens keeper at the Marshall Golf Club, eventually settling as a small engine mechanic at Hardware Hank. Daniel enjoyed his time working at Hardware Hank and was employed there until he retired due to health issues. 

Daniel loved to go fishing. He enjoyed watching sports especially NASCAR and playing pool. A highlight for Daniel was assisting Richard Petty in working on his racecar. 

Daniel died at Avera McKennan hospital in Sioux Falls on Sunday, July 7, 2024. 

He is survived by his son Jason Metz; siblings Susan Edwards, John (Nelda) Metz, Robin Metz; six nieces and nephews; several aunts and uncles; special friends Isaac Buterbaugh, Deb Strongman, Steve Struchen. 

Daniel is preceded in death by his parents Walter and Deloris Metz; grandparents Peter and Frances Metz, Gilbert (Gib) and Edith Molitor; brother Larry Metz; brother-in-law Gerald (Jerry) Edwards.
