Darlene Devereaux Van Overbeke

d. December 5, 2016

Darlene Elizabeth (Devereaux) Van Overbeke was born on March 25, 1925, to Dennis and Alma (Lamarre) Devereaux on a farm near Cottonwood, MN. She was baptized, received first communion and was confirmed at St. Clotilde Catholic Church in Green Valley. Darlene attended grade school in rural Cottonwood District 41 and graduated from Cottonwood High School in 1943. Darlene was united in marriage to Paul L. Van Overbeke on January 5th, 1944, at St. Clotilde Catholic Church in Green Valley. God blessed them with eight children; five boys and three girls. They raised their family on a dairy farm near Marshall. Darlene enjoyed being with family. She also enjoyed baking pies, homemade bread and fried chicken. As her children grew up and moved away, she enjoyed being a member of Catholic Daughters of America and the Council of Catholic Women where she served as President for one year. She enjoyed working in the church basement and leading the Rosary. Darlene also liked to play cards until her eyesight got bad and she was not able to play any longer. Most of all, Darlene loved to visit with people, whether in person or on the phone, and always had a good sense of humor to make someone laugh. Darlene died on Monday, December 5, 2016, at the Prairie Home Hospice House in Marshall. She is survived by her children Roger (and Gloria) of Tracy, Rich (and Ruth) of El Dorado Hills, CA, Pauline (and Doug) Peterson of Los Osos, CA, Dean (and Judy) of Sioux Falls, SD, Marge (and Bob) Paradis of Omaha, NE, Bill of Marshall, Grace (and Larry) Hochstatter of Sioux Falls, SD, and Louie (and Jackie) of Marshall, 20 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul, brother Jerome and his wife, Josephine Devereaux, sisters Dorothy and Rob McLaughlin, Mae and Rob Van Overbeke, Doreen and Oscar Van Overbeke. She was also preceded in death by one infant grandson, Neil Van Overbeke, and one great-grandson, Bradley Skoglund. May she rest in peace.
