Darlene Sylvia Zimmerman was born on September 29, 1930 in Brookings, SD, to Clifford and Sylvia (Wenner) Beynon. Darlene married Melvin R. Zimmerman on January 31, 1948 in Maynard, MN. They lived in Brookings, SD, Montevideo, Tracy, and Marshall. In 1982, they moved to a hobby farm by Minneota. Darlene dearly loved attending the animals and watching the wildlife. In the earlier years she enjoyed bowling, fishing, card games, and baking. She made and decorated cakes for all occasions. She was an avid follower and statistician for her husband and son Jimâs car racing hobby. In 1982 she and her husband received the âWCCO Good Neighbor Awardâ. In the later years Darlene enjoyed bird watching, puzzles, nature on the farm, and casino visits. She always had the coffee on and homemade baked goods for family and friends who came to visit. After her husbandâs death in 2005, she moved to the Minneota Assisted Living, and in August, 2007, she moved to the Hendricks Nursing Home in Hendricks, MN, where she died on Thursday, December 6, 2007.
Darlene is survived by her son James (Mary) of Slayton; 3 grandchildren: Annette (Rick) Rauschnot of Farmington, Mykel (Amy) Zimmerman of Long Prairie, and Brett (Robin) Zimmerman of Alexandria; 4 great-grandchildren: Alison and Nathan Rauschnot, and Adam and Tyler Zimmerman; and her brother Dawes (Deloris) Beynon of Brookings, SD. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, infant daughter, and 2 brothers Donald and Darwin Beynon.
