David L. DeVetter age 76 of Tracy, MN died Friday, December 13, 2013 at the Golden Living Center in La Crescent, MN. A memorial service will be held 1:00 PM Saturday, December 28, 2013 at St. Maryâs Catholic Church in Tracy. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Interment will be in the Calvary Cemetery in Tracy, with a luncheon served in the church social hall immediately following the burial. The Almlie Funeral Home of Tracy is handling the arrangements.
David Lawrence DeVetter was born June 19, 1937 to Florian L. and Mabel (Hallett) DeVetter in Tracy, MN. He was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic faith and attended Tracy Public Schools, graduating from Tracy High School in 1955. After high school David enlisted in the U.S. Navy on June 7, 1955 and was assigned to the Navy Hospital Corp School for training. He was stationed in the Aleutian Islands and Greenland before his honorable discharge on May 22, 1958. He then served in the Naval Reserve until June 6, 1963.
He lived in Los Angeles, CA for a couple years after his military service and then returned to the Tracy area. He enrolled in Mankato State University, where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Education. David then attended Winona State University for his Masterâs Degree in Education, with a specialty in Counseling. He took a teaching position in Elgin, MN at the Elgin-Millville School, where he was an Industrial Arts teacher and coach. He also taught school in Iowa for a short time. David also worked as a carpenter for many years, before he taught school, during the summer breaks and after his teaching career. Over the years David also lived in Rochester, MN, Altura, MN, Tracy, MN and most recently he was living in Lake City, MN.
He was a member of the Elgin-Millville American Legion and enjoyed activities such as gardening, dancing, listening to music, hunting and fishing, and spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
On Friday, December 13, 2013 David died at the Golden Living Center in La Crescent, MN at the age of 76.
David is survived by his three daughters, Julie DeVetter of Red Wing, MN, Andrea (Scott) Brua of Plainview, MN and Carrie DeVetter of Red Wing, MN; two sons, John DeVetter of Owatonna, MN and Brian (Melissa) DeVetter of Dodge Center, MN; eight grandchildren; two great grandchildren; one brother, Chuck (Sharon)DeVetter of Tracy, MN; four sisters, Virginia Renslow of Alexandria, MN, Patricia (James) Dayton of Niles, MI, Kate (Joe) Dayton of Mendota Heights, MN and Donna (Gordon) Hoel of Cedar, MN; many nieces, nephews and friends.
His parents, Florian and Mabel DeVetter, brother-in-law, Paul Renslow and niece, Kimberly Daniels preceded him in death.
