David Hively age 58 of Balaton, MN died Tuesday, December 15, 2009 at the Sanford Hospice Cottages in Sioux Falls, SD. Services will be held 10:30 AM Friday, December 18, 2009 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Balaton. Visitation will be from 4:00 until 8:00 PM Thursday, December 17, 2009 at the Almlie Funeral Home in Balaton and continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday. Interment will be in the Lakeside Cemetery, rural Balaton. The Almlie Funeral Home of Balaton is handling the arrangements. David Earl Hively was born June 6, 1951 to Clifford and Eloise (Greenfield) Hively in Marshall, MN. He was baptized and confirmed in Grace Lutheran Church in Russell, MN. David attended Tyler Public Schools and graduated from Tyler High School in 1970. As a young man, he started working as a hired hand, for Don and Kenneth Greenfield for many years. On November 24, 1973 David married Julie Holm at the Balaton United Methodist Church. They made their home in Balaton where David lived the rest of his life. In 1995 David began driving truck for Gifford Trucking Company in Balaton, and continued driving until shortly before his death. David was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Balaton. He enjoyed camping, traveling seeing the country while driving truck and spending time with his grandkids. He will always be remembered for his willingness to help other people with projects and his great sense of humor. Recently David became a resident of the Sanford Hospice Cottages in Sioux Falls, SD where he died Tuesday, December 15, 2009 at the age of 58. David is survived by his two sons, Jay (Jennifer) Hively of Madison, SD and Jesse (Ashley) Hively of Hurley, SD; two grandsons, Wiatt and Connor Hively; his father, Clifford Hively of Balaton, MN; one brother, Clarence (Nancy) Hively of Russell, MN; and many friends. His mother, Eloise Hively preceded him in death.
