David W. Horsman age 75 of Balaton, MN died Sunday, October 7, 2012 at his home in Balaton. A private family service will be held at the Almlie Funeral Home in Balaton on Wednesday, October 10, 2012. Interment will be in the Hoiland Cemetery near Garvin, MN. The Almlie Funeral Home of Balaton is handling the arrangements.
David Wright Horsman was born February 5, 1937 to Clyde and Catherine (Prouty) Horsman in Tracy, MN. He was Baptized and confirmed in the Christian faith and attended country school in Monroe Township. He then attended Tracy High School, graduating in 1955. During his years in high school, David was active in the school choir and excelled in sports, participating in football, track and wrestling. He was awarded a full football scholarship to South Dakota State University in Brookings, SD, but an injury ended his playing and he chose to work on the farm with his father. He also participated in Golden Gloves Boxing program in Slayton.
On May 14, 1960 David married Elaine Benson at the Church of Christ in Tracy. They made their home on a farm southwest of Tracy where he was a grain and livestock farmer. In 1990 he and his wife moved to Balaton, MN where he resided until his death.
David continued his love of music and sports from high school, often singing around the house and enjoying watching Vikings football and golf on Television. He had a great interest in history and always stayed on top of current events in the world. He also enjoyed playing cards and board games with his family.
On Sunday, October 7, 2012 David died at his home in Balaton at the age of 75.
David is survived by his wife, Elaine Horsman of Balaton; one daughter, Angie (Matt) Welu of Tyler, MN; three sons, Loren of Homestead, FL, Tom of Balaton and James of Maple Grove, MN; two grandchildren, JoAnn (Scott) Doysher of Mankato, MN and Megan (Eric) Welu-Papp of Woodbury, MN; three great grandchildren, Aubrey, Kenley and Katy; one brother, Neil (Millie) Horsman of Tracy, MN; two sisters, Virginia (Gordon) Stahn of Fairmont, MN and Marjorie (Jim) Sorenson of Lamberton, MN; nieces, nephews and friends.
His parents, Clyde and Catherine Horsman preceded him in death.
