Mass of Christian Burial for David James Lanners, 65, of Wood Lake, MN will take place on Tuesday, April 22, 2025 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic church in Currie, MN beginning at 2:00 p.m. Public visitation will take place on Monday, April 21, 2025 at the Horvath Remembrance Center in Tracy, MN from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. and will continue Tuesday afternoon at church one hour prior to the funeral mass. Burial will take place at Immaculate Heart of Mary cemetery following the funeral mass.
David James Lanners was born on October 16, 1959 to Robert and Carol (Miller) Lanners in Tracy, MN. He grew up in in Currie and attended school there until transferring to Tracy school system. He completed the 7th grade and then began working at Marshall Produce. He worked there for some time until he began a career at Southwest Sanitation. David enjoyed his employment there until an on the job injury put him into retirement.
David met Colleen McGowan in the late 1980’s. The couple was married on May 5, 1990. Together they have one daughter, Elizabeth. David and Margaret later divorced. At this time David met Dawn Dutcher. The pair was married on May 12, 1995 in Sioux Falls, SD. They raised their blended family in Balaton until 2001 when they relocated to Wood Lake. They remained there until Dawn passed away in 2018. After Dawn died, David reconnected with Margaret and moved in with her in Hector.
David was an avid outdoorsman. He loved to hunt, fish and go camping with his friends and family. He could often be found at demolition derbies and stockcar races. David enjoyed riding his motorcycle and attending the Wabasso Roll-ins. He also had a passion for bowling and dart league. David’s grandchildren were the highlight of his world.
David passed away at his residence in Hector on Sunday, April 13, 2025 after a long battle with COPD.
He is survived by his significant other Colleen Lanners; children Amy Klein, Davey Lanners Jr, Anthony Dutcher, Elizabeth (My) Chau, Jason Dutcher, TaMara Poudyal, Carol (Nick) Petersen; siblings Connie (Randy) Schreier, Kevin (Chris) Lanners, Mike (Kelly) Lanners, Dale Lanners, Robert (Brandy) Lanners; 13 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild; many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
David is preceded in death by his wife Dawn Lanners; son Justin Pearson; parents Robert and Carol Lanners; grandparents James and Mary Lanners; sister Shirley Peterson-Thooft; nephews Lance Peterson, John Lanners; parents-in-law Robert and Karen Dutcher, brother-in-law Jim Peterson.
