David was born September 6, 1939 at home on a farm near Marshall, MN, the son of Marcel & Theresa Louwagie. He was raised and educated in Cottonwood, graduating from Central Catholic High School in 1957. He married Virginia Josephine Morgan on February 1, 1964. They were married for 29 years and were blessed with 13 children before her death in 1993. David later married Kris Holm on July 25, 1999 and joined two children to the family. They were married for 21 years at the time of his death.
David worked for many years as a dairy farmer, taking pride in the selection and care of livestock and the quality of his product. He greatly enjoyed woodworking and the sharing of his skills. He built barns on his farm, multiple items of furniture, and many clocks which were given to family and donated to church raffles. Throughout his life, David continued to learn and enjoy new woodworking skillsets, especially running a lathe to make bowls, utensils and urns. Later in life he began carving. He loved providing his many grandchildren with the gift of personalized carvings. Along with woodworking, David enjoyed fishing and playing cards in the company of friends and family. He was actively involved with St. Clotilde Catholic Church, Cottonwood School Board and SW Minnesota Dairy Association Board.
