David Andrew Walters was born on July 30, 1984, in Marshall, to Glenn Walters and Lisa (Buesing). He grew up in Russell and graduated from RTR High School in 2003. In 2004, David was injured in a diving accident that resulted in his paralysis. Despite his injury, he enjoyed a full life. He was very kind, patient and funny. David had a life-long love of the outdoors. In his youth, he enjoyed hunting and golfing, and later gardening and just spending time outdoors. He was passionate about his family. He looked forward to family gatherings and especially enjoyed time with his niece and nephew. He was also very close to his dog, Jackson. Davidâs care-givers were also his family. He was grateful for their kindness, friendship and support, especially Sharlyn Tiedeman, Jenny Erdman, Tami Trigg, and Cathy Van Overbeke.
David died on Wednesday, October 14, 2015, surrounded by his family, at the Sanford Medical Center in Sioux Falls, SD, as the result of complications from his injury. He is survived by his parents Glenn Walters of Balaton, Lisa (and Loren) DeMartelaere of Russell, sister Jessica Walters (and Josh) of Balaton, nephew and niece Jayden and Jocelyn, grandmother Jeanette Walters of Balaton, and all of his nurses and caregivers, aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandparents Von and Grace Buesing, Andrew Walters and cousin Dana Ryther.
