Dean D. Thompson age 63 of Hadley, MN died Thursday, February 26, 2009 at the V. A. Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD. Services will be 1:00 PM Wednesday, March 4, 2009 at the Victory Christian Church in Balaton, MN. Visitation will be from 5:00 until 8:00 PM Tuesday, March 3, 2009 at the Chandler Funeral Chapel in Chandler, MN with a prayer service at 7:00 PM and continuing one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday. Interment will be at the Memorial Hill Cemetery in Lake Benton, MN.
The Chandler Funeral Association is handling the arrangements.
Dean David Thompson was born September 25, 1945 to Alvin D. and Dorothy (Huebner) Thompson in Tyler, MN, Lincoln County. He was baptized and confirmed in the Christian faith and attended country school near Hadley, MN. He then went to West Virginia where he attended a vocational school and trained as a meat cutter.
In October of 1968 he enlisted into the U. S. Army and was stationed in California during his training. Dean served in the Military Police in Vietnam for over one year and received his honorable discharge in October of 1970. He then returned to the state of Virginia and completed his reserve obligation is 1974. He moved back to Minnesota to the Jackson area and then the Hendricks, for a short time before moving to Fulda, MN in 1990. In the mid 1990âs he settled in Hadley, MN.
Over the years Dean worked as a meat cutter, furniture upholsterer and a truck driver. He was a member of the Victory Christian Church in Balaton, MN, a member of the Lake Wilson American Legion and Gamblerâs Anonymous. In his retirement years he was a facilitator for a local Gamblerâs Anonymous that met in Marshall, MN. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, motorcycles and the outdoors, but spending time with his children and grandchildren were very special to him.
In February of 2009 he entered the V. A. Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD where he died Thursday, February 26, 2009 at the age of 63.
Dean is survived by his two daughters, Connie (Rick) Frahm of Big Lake, MN and Jessica (Justin) Gaarder of Worthington, MN; three sons, Brian (Honoree) Thompson and Bradley Thompson of Virginia, and Alvin Thompson of Fulda, MN; five grandchildren, Karen, Anna, Christina, Hoyt, and Hunter; one brother, Leon (Barb) Thompson of Milbank, SD; two sisters, Lucille (Earl) Cooley of Merritt Island, FL and Debbra (Bill) DeYonge of Pierre, SD; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and many friends.
His parents, one daughter, Karen, one sister, Alvina, three brothers, Dale, Dwaine and Alvin Jr., three aunts, Viola, Jackie and Clara, six uncles, Rudolph, Orville, Wesley, Donald, Joe and Fritz and one nephew, Kevin Cooley, all preceded him in death.
