Mass of Christian Burial for Delmar Debbaut, 86, of Marshall, formerly of Milroy, will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 23, 2020, at St. Michaelâs Catholic Church in Milroy. Visitation will be Wednesday, January 22, 2020, from 4:00 p.m. â 7:00 p.m. with a Rosary at 4:00 p.m. and a Parish Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. at the church in Milroy. Visitation will continue from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Thursday at the church. Interment with military honors will follow the service at St. Michaelâs Catholic Cemetery in Milroy.
Delmar Donald Debbaut was born on September 22, 1933, in Minneota, to Richard and Emma (Facile) Debbaut. As a young child he moved with his family to a farm near Milroy where he grew up. He graduated from Milroy High School, then served two years in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. After his discharge, he returned to Milroy. On December 28, 1957, he was united in marriage to Rose Boerjan at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church. The couple farmed and raised their family near Milroy. Although Delmar continued to help on the farm, he retired from active farming in 1980. He began a woodworking business where he built many rustic furnishings, tables, picture frames and other items. He enjoyed marketing these items at various craft shows and other places. Delmar had many interesting collections including animal traps and Winchester Tools and other items. He was a firearms instructor for 40 years. He was very active in his community. He was a lifelong member of the Knights of Columbus, 63 year member of the American Legion, Charter Member of the Milroy Lions Club and served on the City Council in Milroy for 25 years. He was also an avid deer hunter. The couple loved to travel, especially to Mexico in the winter. In 2018, Delmar and Rose moved to Heritage Pointe in Marshall.
Delmar died on Sunday, January 19, 2020, at Heritage Pointe Senior Living Center in Marshall. He is survived by his wife, Rose, of Marshall, son John (and Jacque) Debbaut of Fairbanks, AK, son Greg (and Wanda) Debbaut of Milroy, daughter Louann Debbaut of St. Paul, grandchildren Jeff (and Kirsten) Debbaut of North Pole, AK, Jacob (and Sadie) Debbaut of Fairbanks, AK, Mike (and Nicole) Debbaut of Milroy and Adam (and Courtney) Debbaut of Tracy, and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, son Paul, grandson Scott and sister Rose Van Moer.
