Don was born on January 28, 1936, in Marshall, to Frank and Elvira (Erickson) McLaughlin. He graduated from Central High School in Omaha, NE and attended the University of Nebraska and St. Cloud State University. He served in the United States Air Force active duty 1954 to 1958. He then moved to Marshall and started a long career with McLaughlin and Schulz, most recently serving as a Partner. On September 10, 1960, he was united in marriage to Lynne Schulz at St. Maryâs Chapel in Marshall. He retired in 2003. Don loved spending time with his family and friends. His grandchildren brought him great joy. He was a proud member of the Marshall noon Rotary Club and boasted a perfect attendance record. He had the honor of serving as District Governor #5610 from 1993 to 1994. He was a faithful member of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church and was a member of the Knights of Columbus 4th Degree. He loved the Marshall community and served on many local boards including, the Hospital Board and Hospital Foundation Board and Golf Club Board. He especially enjoyed his morning coffee club, reading, golfing, and faithfully completing the weekly T.V. Guide crossword puzzle.
Don died on Saturday, October 29, 2011, at Avera Morningside Heights Care Center in Marshall. He is survived by wife of 51 years, Lynne, four daughters, Laurie McLaughlin, Kim (Reuben) Steinbronn, Shelly McLaughlin (Buster Noggle), Kristi (Derek) McLaughlin Sebey, 6 grandchildren, Matthew, Lexie, Mikayla, Maddie, Reegan and Brielle, brother, Jack McLaughlin, brother, Jim Engh, sister, Marilyn Wood, mother-in-law, Dolores Schulz Rans, and many other family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Elvira McLaughlin (birth mother), Frank and Elsie McLaughlin; Marion and Harris Engh; and father-in-law, Howard Schulz.
He will be dearly missed by family and friends.
