Donald Dean Hoberg was born on September 17, 1930, in Lake Benton Township, to Hans and Clara (Otto) Hoberg. He grew up on the family farm near Lake Benton and graduated from Lake Benton High School. Don enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in Korea from 1954 â 1956. He was very proud of his military service and was a longtime member of the American Legion. After his honorable discharge, he returned to the family farm near Lake Benton. On May 5, 1959, he was united in marriage to Jeanette Claeys at St. Edward Catholic Church. The couple farmed and raised their family on Donâs farm near Lake Benton until moving to Minneota in the winter of 1969. Don managed the fertilizer and chemical plant in Minneota until his retirement in 1992. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and the outdoors. He had a lifelong love for farming and anything to do with farming. He also enjoyed playing cards, softball and bowling, but most of all spending time with his grandchildren. Don died on Sunday, August 1, 2010, at the Hendricks Hospital.
He is survived by his wife, Jeanette, of Minneota, son Paul of Minneota, daughter Darla (and Paul) Frost of LeSueur, MN, grandson Evan, daughter Karen (and Brad) Otremba of Inver Grove Heights, MN, granddaughter Emily, daughter Deann (and Craig) Holland of Marshall, grandchildren Elliot and Josie, daughter Julie (and Craig) Snyder of Austin, MN, grandchildren Kyle, Niki and Chloe. He is also survived by his sister, June Trautman of Hendricks. He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings Lucille Magandy, Milton and Glenn Hoberg, Luverne Delaney and Phyllis Persoon.
