Doris J. Ewy age 85 of Westbrook, MN died Saturday, October 17, 2009 at the Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Westbrook. Services will be 1:00 PM Tuesday, October 20, 2009 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Westbrook. Visitation will be from 5:00 until 8:00 PM Monday, October 19, 2009 at the Almlie Funeral Home in Westbrook and continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday. Interment will at the Westbrook Cemetery. The Almlie Funeral Home of Westbrook is handling the arrangements.
Doris Jean Ewy was born May 22, 1924 to Eugen and Meta (Bremer) Herbst in Storden, MN, Cottonwood County. She grew up on a farm in between Storden and Jeffers, MN and was baptized and confirmed in the Christian faith at Trinity Lutheran Church in Jeffers. Doris attended Storden Public Schools and graduated from Storden High School. As a young woman she worked as a teller in the Storden Bank.
On June 16, 1945 Doris married Gerold Ewy at Trinity Lutheran Church in Jeffers and they made their home on a farm south of Westbrook. They remained on the farm until 1986 when they moved into Westbrook. Doris continued to live in her own home after her husbandâs death in 1994.
In the past, Doris worked as Activities Director at the Good Samaritan Home in Westbrook for many years. She also owned and operated Dorisâs Hobby House, located on the farm, where she taught ceramics and painting. She also enjoyed craft painting, going to craft shows and garage sales, quilting, oil painting, antiques, gardening, and collectables. Doris was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Westbrook and active in the church womenâs groups over the years. She also was active in Birthday Club, and served on the museum and library committeeâs.
On September 1, 2009 Doris became a resident of Good Samaritan Home in Westbrook, where she died Saturday, October 17, 2009 at the age of 85.
Doris is survived by her three daughters, Barb (Brad) Uhlenhopp of Westbrook, MN, Carol (Steve) Ingalls of St. Michael, MN and Pat (Tim) Wimperis of Breezy Point, MN; eight grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and a host of friends.
Her parents, husband, Gerold, and one son, Richard preceded her in death.
