Dorothy Marie Maertens was born on March 18, 1929, in Tracy, to Rene´ and Bernice (Tiemessen) Maeyaert. As a child, she moved with her family to a farm between Ghent and Marshall. She attended school in Marshall and graduated from Marshall High School. On November 23, 1948, she was united in marriage to Earl Maertens. The couple farmed near Amiret for a few years before moving to a farm near Porter. In 1975, they moved to Marshall. Dorothy worked for the Schott Corporation for over 25 years. She enjoyed visiting, playing cards, baking, cooking, reading magazines and doing word puzzles. Dorothy was most passionate about her family, especially her grandchildren.
Dorothy died on Monday, April 15, 2013, at the Prairie Home Hospice House in Marshall. She is survived by her children Kathleen (and David) Schreurs of Tyler, Patricia (and Wayne) Peltier of Cottonwood, Lora (and Douglas) Lindsley of Lynd, Brenda (and Curtis) Hanson of Proctor, 14 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, twin brother Donald (and Donna) Maeyaert and brother Francis (and Judy) Maeyaert, sisters Rita LaVoy and Ruth (and Larry) Erickson, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl, sons Dennis and Alan, infant daughter, Mary, parents Rene´ and Bernice and brother David Maeyaert.
