Mass of Christian Burial for Douglas J. Pohlen, 71, of Northfield, formerly of Minneota, will take place at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, March 10, 2023, at St. Edward Catholic Church in Minneota. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will follow the service at St. Edward Catholic Cemetery.
Douglas Joseph Pohlen was born on January 5, 1952, in Marshall, Minnesota to Benjamin and Lorraine (Thomas) Pohlen. He grew up on the family farm and graduated from Minneota High School in 1970. Doug attended a vocational technology school in St. Michael, for two years, for auto body repair. He married Linda Kay Jeremiason in June of 1976 and worked in auto body for six years and then for ten years on the family farm in St. Leo. After moving to Rosemount, in 1989, Linda passed away. Doug raised the kids, and though it was not easy, he did the best he could. He worked at the Minnesota Zoo as a carpenter for over 30 years before retiring. While in Rosemount, he met Linda Horsman, and they were married in September of 1994. They had a small horse farm for a little while and moved to Northfield in 2016.
In his free time, Doug enjoyed “driving around” and always found something to buy. He had many different classified ads around the house and like “looking.” He collected different things, including ceramic chickens! Doug had a Goldwing motorcycle for many years and enjoyed the time spent with Linda on the road. He was sarcastic and had a good sense of humor. Doug could be gruff but was an incredibly hard worker and would help when asked. He would give you the shirt off his back. Doug’s grandchildren were incredibly important to him, and he would always enjoy the time spent with them. He was a special man, who will be dearly missed.
Douglas passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 19, 2023, under hospice care at his residence in Northfield.
Doug is survived by his wife, Linda; children, Sean (Kristi Kling) of Lonsdale, Luke (Ashley Huber) of New Prague, Kelly Schrandt of Rochester, Kasey (Julie) Schrandt of Inver Grove Heights, and Gina (Austin) Schatz of Stewartville; grandchildren, Krista, Mira, Conner, Ally, Kaiden, James, Olivia, Kendra, Tucker, Archer, Trevyn, Nolan, Reece, Ava, Gracie, Karver and Kendall; a great grandson, Louis; and siblings, Ben (Sue) of Minneota, Diane (Jim) Jelen of Starbuck, and Margene (Bernie) Claeys of Minneota. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Linda Kay; parents, Ben and Lorraine; and siblings, Eunice, Phyllis, Delores, Lois, Thomas, Jerry and Michael.
