Doug was born on August 31, 1960, in Pipestone, MN to Walt and Kathy (Ehlers) Wagner. He was baptized into the Lutheran Faith and confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Pipestone. Doug loved being outdoors and began working on the Bonnie and Jim Folkerts farm while in high school. Doug graduated from Pipestone High School in 1979 and afterwards attended Granite Falls Vocational Technical School for Professional Sales. After graduating in 1980, Doug began working as a salesman for Barglof Chevrolet, which later became Anton Chevrolet. It was there that he met his wife, Diane Petersen from Tyler, MN. They were united in marriage on June 29, 1985 in Pipestone. After living in Marshall, for a few years, they moved in 1989 to their present home on the lake in Cottonwood. In July 1996 Doug began working for the Consumer Brand Division of The Schwan Food Company in Marshall where he was presently employed.
Doug was an avid outdoorsman and spent the majority of his spare time enjoying natureâs beauty. Whether it was hunting, fishing, riding his Harley motorcycle, water skiing (barefooting), or pulling kids tubing on the lake, Doug filled his spare time surrounded by his family and many friends. If Doug wasnât on the water, riding his bike, or hunting, he could be found tending to his yard or playing with his dogs on the lawn. An active conservationist, Doug became a member the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation and a Lifetime Member of Pheasants Forever.
Doug passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, September 22, 2012, at the Avera Marshall Regional Medical Center in Marshall. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Diane, of Cottonwood, daughters Shannon Wagner Paulson of Pipestone, Jessi âJessi-Bugâ Wagner of Rochester, Erica âLittle Buddyâ Wagner of Cottonwood, parents Walt and Kathy Wagner of Starbuck, brother Randy (and Lisa) Wagner of Buena Vista, CO, sister Lisa (and Chris) Taylor of Cushing, MN. He will be lovingly remembered by his large extended family, many wonderful friends, and his hunting dogs Lacey, Smokey and Razz. He was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents, many aunts and uncles and his hunting dogs Bo-Jack and Princess.
