Duane Lester Thompson was born on September 22, 1940 in Lynd to Andrew and Evelyn (Jacobson) Thompson. He was the youngest of seven children. Having lost his parents at a young age, Duane valued family. He was proud to start his own after meeting and marrying Saundra (Hanson) in Madison, MN in 1957. He was able to become the biggest role model to his own children. He was a hard worker, owning his own construction company, Thompson Excavating, before he was able to retire and truly enjoy life. In his retirement he was able to do what he loved: be with his family, hunt, fish, and trap with his grandson. Duane cherished the memories he made traveling with his grandchildren in the Winnebago. He loved to drive and share its beauty; whether it was across the country or to the Roundup to catch up with the guys. He loved his family and taught them to live life to the fullest and cherish each day.
Duane died suddenly on Sunday, August 5, 2012 at his home in Minneota.
Those who will greatly miss Dad and Grandpa are his wife, Saundra; children, Pam (Mike) Weckwerth of Canby, Dan (Lynda) Thompson of Faribault, Scott Thompson of Marshall, Troy (Carla) of Minneota; 10 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; sisters, Ethel (Keith) Stroup of Clarkfield, Eldora Hubbard of Minneapolis.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Harvey and Bernard; sisters, Marge Kompelien and Lavonne Benson.
