Edmund A. Sumerfelt was born on March 28, 1926, in Taunton to Alexander and Domicilia (Keilb) Sumerfelt. He grew up and attended school in Taunton. Edmund served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He flew on a B17 âFlying Fortressâ as a flight engineer and machine gunner. He flew with the 2nd emergency resue squadron. After his honorable discharge, he returned to Minneota. On January 15, 1947, he was united in marriage to Vivian Ligneel. The couple made their home and raised their family on a farm near Minneota. Edmund never lost his passion for flying. He was proud of his service and belonged to the U.S. American Legion and VFW. Edmund and Vivian were very devoted to each other. For the last couple of years, they lived at Hill Street Place in Marshall.
He died on Saturday, June 28, 2014, at the Prairie Home Hospice House in Marshall. He is survived by his wife, Vivan of Minneota, daughter Carol Sumerfelt of Minneapolis, son Larry (and Lisa) of Minneota, son Steven (and Darlene) of Allen, TX, three grandchildren, sisters Virginia, Dorothy and Audrey, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and two brothers.
