Edna E. Hubin, age 91 of Westbrook, MN died Friday, December 19, 2008 at the Sanford-Westbrook Medical Center in Westbrook. Services will be held 10:30 AM, Tuesday, December 23, 2008 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Westbrook, MN. Visitation will be held from 4:00 until 8:00 PM, Monday, December 22, 2008 at the Almlie Funeral Home of Westbrook with a 7:00 PM prayer service. Interment will be at the Westbrook Cemetery. Almlie Funeral Home of Westbrook, MN is handling the arrangements.
Edna Ellen Hubin was born November 2, 1917 to Martin and Florence (Ewing) Larson on a farm near Florence, SD, Cottington County. She was baptized and confirmed in the Methodist church. As a young infant her family moved to Pipestone, MN for about ten years, before returning to farming on her paternal grandparentâs farm near Ihlen, MN. After several years her family then moved to a farm north of Pipestone, and she finished her schooling in the Pipestone Public Schools, graduating from Pipestone High School in 1936. Edna then enrolled in the Swedish School of Nursing in Minneapolis, MN, where she lived with her Aunt and Uncle.
On November 28, 1944 Edna married Milton Hubin at the Pipestone Methodist Church. They made their home on Miltonâs parentâs farm near Westbrook, MN and Edna went to work as a private duty nurse and accompanied Dr. Carlson on house calls as well. In 1951 when the Westbrook Hospital opened, Edna was one of the first two nurses on duty, which led to a career for the next 32 years. She not only was the full time nurse at work, but âOur personal nurse all through lifeâ to her family.
She was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Westbrook since her marriage, where she was very active in the churches womenâs groups. She also was a member of the Clara Barton Club and served as president and was a member of the Westbrook Hospital Auxiliary from its conception. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, reading, and watching certain TV shows.
In March of 2008 Edna became a resident of the Westbrook Good Samaritan Center, where she died Friday, December 19, 2008 at the age of 91.
Edna is survived by her two daughters, Marilyn (Dave) Wolfe of Medinah, IL and Marlene (Darrell) Gleason of Currie, MN; two sons, Merlyn (Sondra) Hubin and Marlo (Kimberly) Hubin both of Westbrook, MN; six grandchildren, Amy Caspers, Ryan, Michael, Garrett, Cassondra and Amelia Hubin; six great grandchildren, Dominik Caspers, McKayla, Markett, Areil, Gabreil and Reilly Hubin; one sister-in-law, Iris Marshall of Westbrook, MN; and many friends.
Her husband, Milton, parents, and one brother-in-law, Al Marshall preceded her in death.
