Funeral services for Edna Miller, 94, of Marshall, formerly of Balaton, will be at 11:30 am. on Thursday, March 17, 2022, at Sillerud Lutheran Church in rural Balaton with Vicar Rick Carlson officiating. Visitation will be at Sillerud Lutheran Church from 10:00 - 11:30 am one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will follow the service at the Sillerud Cemetery in rural Balaton. Edna Mae Karna Miller was born in Skandia Township, Murray County, on February 5, 1928, to Olaf and Lillian (Edner) Hubbard. She and her parents lived on several farms in Murray County and for a short time in Illinois and then on a farm on Lake Shetek. Edna loved growing up by the lake and enjoyed the water. At an early age she learned to speak Swedish from her parents. Edna attended country schools and Slayton High School graduating in 1945. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. Edna married Harris Miller at Sillerud on October 2, 1948. They were married for 69 years. They farmed on his family farm and raised four daughters. Edna was active with the Sillerud church—Sunday school teacher, WELCA, and quilting group. She was a leader of the Skandia Scouts 4-H club and a member of Skandia Homemakers Extension club. Edna and Harris traveled extensively in the U.S. and several foreign countries, including two trips to Sweden. They spent winters in Mesa, Arizona. Edna was on the women’s traveling pool team for the Good Life RV Resort and a member of the champion team and park individual champion.
Edna died March 12, 2022, at Morningside Heights Care Center in Marshall. She is survived by her daughters and their spouses, Connie and Ron Schwartau of Balaton, Lu and Bernie Miller of Scottsdale, AZ, Joyce and Andy Mundahl of Golden Valley, Jan and Ken Haeg of Edina; four grandchildren Kristian Mundahl, John Mundahl, Danny Haeg, Molly Haeg and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Harris; parents Olaf and Lillian; two half-sisters and one half-brother and their spouses Alfreda and Al Bowman, Violet and Mel Bowman, Alfred and Beth Holmbeck
Memorials preferred to Sillerud Lutheran Church, Balaton Area Historical Society, or Shetek Lutheran Ministries.
