Edna Welsand age 95 of Balaton, MN died Saturday, January 17, 2009 at the Prairie Home Hospice House in Marshall, MN. Services will be 11:00 AM Saturday, January 24, 2009 at Sillerud Lutheran Church, rural Balaton, MN. Visitation will be from 4:00 until 7:00 PM Friday, January 23, 2009 also at the Sillerud Lutheran Church, with a prayer service at 6:30 PM. Interment will be in the Sillerud Lutheran Cemetery. The Almlie Funeral Home of Balaton is handling the arrangements.
Edna Marion Eloise Welsand was born November 11, 1913 to Martin and Ellen (Miller) Skaug on a farm near Balaton, MN. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at Sillerud Lutheran Church and attended country school. Edna then attended Balaton High School and as a young woman, she worked at the Balaton Drug Store as a clerk.
On September 5, 1937 Edna married Luther Welsand and they made their home on the Welsand family farm southwest of Balaton. In 1989 they moved into Balaton and later she moved into the Balaton Duplex when they were first built. In 2003 Edna became a resident of the Colonial Manor Nursing Home in Balaton.
Edna was a life-long member of the Sillerud Lutheran Church and active in Welca and other church womenâs groups. She was also active in Murray County Extension, enjoyed crocheting, playing cards, and antique shopping. Edna was a homemaker and worked along side her husband on the farm for many years.
On December 28, 2008 Edna became a resident of the Prairie Home Hospice House in Marshall, MN, where she died Saturday, January 17, 2009 at the age of 95.
Edna is survived by her one daughter, Barbara Boyle of San Marcos, CA; one grandson, Todd Boyle of San Marcos, CA; two granddaughters, Shannon Romero of Vista, CA and Stephanie (Brian) Werner of Oceanside, CA; six great grandchildren, Jacob, Joshua, Jared, Devin, Lily and Luke; one brother, Charles (Audrey) Skaug of Russell, MN; nieces, nephews and many friends.
Her parents, husband, Luther, one son, Lyle, one son-in-law, Richard Boyle, three brothers, Chester, Harold and Clarence and five sisters, Helen Duff, Agnes Taggert, Irene Chantry, Mabel Pehrson and Dora Nelson preceded her in death.
