Mass of Christian Burial for Elaine Hennen, 82, of Marshall, will be Friday, November 4, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Eloi Catholic Church in Ghent. Visitation will be Thursday from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., with a rosary at 4:00 p.m. and a prayer service at 7:00 p.m., at the Horvath Remembrance Center in Marshall. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will follow at St. Eloi Catholic Cemetery in Ghent.

Elaine Mary Hennen (Doom) was born on February 9, 1940, to Emil and Marie Doom at home on the farm in Lake Marshall township. She grew up on the farm with her 4 siblings and attended Catholic grade school in Marshall.  She graduated from Central High School in 1957, attended Presentation School of Nursing in Sioux Falls, SD following the path of her older sisters. She graduated with a Diploma in Nursing in 1960. She married Conrad Hennen on November 26, 1960, at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church. Together, they farmed northeast of Ghent and were life-long members of St. Eloi Church. In 2001, they retired and moved to Marshall. She enjoyed being a farm wife and mother, sewing, embroidery, antiquing, and watching birds. In addition, she volunteered at church and was a founding member of Birthright in the area in 1977.

Elaine died on Sunday, October 30, 2022, at her home at Boulder Estates Assisted Living in Marshall.

She is survived by her children: son Doug (Cindy) Hennen of Cottonwood, and child Elizabeth; son Brad (Barb) Hennen of Ghent, and their children Robert (Caroline), Danny, Audrey (Mark), Grant (Emilee), Susie (Matt), Beth, Thomas, Jacob, and Leo; daughter Julie (Joey) Freyberg of Mankato, and their children Ben (Amber) and Anna; daughter Mary Susan (Timothy) Drake of Isanti, and their children Elias, Claire, Leo, Elena, and Peter; and son Martin (Laura) Hennen of Ghent, and their children Zachary, Kate, Evan, and Elise; seven great-grandchildren; sisters Maurine Goblirsch and Catherine Verkinderen, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Conrad, brother William Doom, sister Sharon Zender, and brothers-in-law Greg Goblirsch and Joe Verkinderen.

Memorials may be directed to St. Eloi Catholic Church or Sisters of Mary Morning Star or donor’s choice.
