Eleanor C. Blomme died on Friday, November 21, 2008, at the Minneota Manor. She was born on January 25, 1927, to Philip and Thekla (Hartmann) Hoffmann at St. Leo, MN, in Yellow Medicine County. Eleanor attended school for two years in Country School 74, and later attended St. Leo Catholic School through the eighth grade. After eighth grade, she helped out on her parentâs farm and did housekeeping for others. Eleanor was a member of St. Annâs, the Christian Motherâs Society, and the Catholic Aid Society of St. Leo, MN. At the present time, she is a member of St. Edward Catholic Church, the Joan of Arc Society, the Living Rosary Society and the Schoenstatt of the Sick of Ivanhoe, MN. Eleanor was united in marriage to Rene Blomme on January 16, 1945, at St. Leo Catholic Church in St. Leo. During their marriage, they farmed in Swede Prairie Township for seven years and later moved to Minneota where she worked for Dennoâs Produce, A.B. Tracy Co and Wienerâs Produce in Marshall. Rene Blomme passed away on May 1, 1979, in Milan, IL. Eleanor continued to do volunteer work at the Wiener Memorial Nursing Home and the Minneota Manor. She was also employed at the Green Door Supper Club, did housekeeping for several pastors and babysitting for others. On October 5, 1972, she entered the Minneota Manor Nursing Home. Eleanor lived there for sixteen years, then moved to the Madison Ave Apartments. In august of 2008, she moved back to the Minneota Manor Nursing Home due to her declining health. During her life at the Manor and Madison Apartments, Eleanor loved to help people at the Manor. She loved to walk, scrapbook, write and listen to old time music. One of her greatest accomplishments was researching and compiling a book on the Hoffmann Family Tree.
Eleanor is survived by her two daughters, Virginia (and James) Bisek of St. Cloud, MN, and Donna Bertamus and her special friend James Olsem of Fulda, four grandsons; Timothy Bertamus and Terrance ( and Tanna) Bertamus of Minneota, Aaron (and Nicole) Bisek of Elk river and Zachary (and Megan) Bisek of Denver, CO, three special great-grandchildren; Brandon and Lilie Bertamus and Alexander Bisek, five very caring brothers and sisters; Willie (and Marlene) Hoffmann of Marshall, Floribert (and Claire) Hoffmann and Germain (and Marian) Hoffmann of Minneota, Ludwina Hoffmann of Golden Valley and Phyllis (and Edward) Polman of Clarkfield. After 36 years in the Madison Ave. Apts and the Minneota Nursing Home, Eleanor also leaves behind the entire staff of these facilities who watched over her and were her second family. She is preceded in death by Rene Blomme, daughter Shirley Ann Blomme (1956), her parents, sisters Rosalia and Marietta and four infant siblings.
