Ella was born on January 22, 1928, in Denmark to Soren and Sinnie (Korneliusen) Sorensen. Her family immigrated to the United States when she was seven years old. She started school in Grand Forks, ND, and, in 1938, her family moved to Northwood, ND, where Ella graduated from high school. She attended Mayville State College. Ella met the love of her life; Alvin M. “Sandy” Sanderson in Rugby, ND. They were married in Northwood, ND, and started their married life in Newburg, ND. They soon moved to Rugby, ND, where they had two children; their daughter Cindi was born in 1952 and Karen in 1954. They had several moves through the years including Marshall, Golden Valley, Tyler, (all Minnesota) and Danbury, WI.
Ella worked in many different jobs through the years and retired from Schwan Food Company in Marshall. Her greatest gift was her gift of time. Ella has spent countless hours helping people wherever she lived and especially at Hill Street Apartments. Ella had lived at Hill Street Place since 1996. She had been a caretaker and confidant to many people there and beloved by all who knew here. She moved to Boulder Estates in September of 2022.
Ella died on Saturday, April 22, 2023, at the Sunrise Manor in Tyler, Minnesota. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Alvin “Sandy” Sanderson and her daughter Cindi. She is survived by her daughter Karen (Paul) Bentrup; grandchildren Melissa Stickland, Naomi (Scott) Rieland, Leif (Dana) Throngard, Matthew (Brooke) Throngard, Bryan Bentrup, Leah Bentrup and Traci (Jon) Sletmoe; 14 great-grandchildren; nieces Alice (Jerry) Dorscher and Nancy Sanderson along with many other nieces and nephews in the US and Denmark. Her family was so important and she loved them more than anything else in the world.
Mom, we love you and will miss you but we rejoice that you are with loved ones who have been waiting for you. There is a new star in the heavens tonight that is bigger and brighter than all the others. Mom, you have been a good and faithful servant now go in peace.
