Elsie Mary (Osman) Hokanson was born on October 12, 1923, in Minneapolis, MN, to Michael and Martha (Sakol) Osman. She grew up and graduated from high school in Minneapolis. After high school, she worked for Munsingwear in Minneapolis and D.W. Onan as a secretary. This was during war time and they were both defense plants making items for the war effort. On February 3, 1951, Elsie was united in marriage to Hilding Hokanson. The couple made their home and raised their family in Marshall. She worked as a para-professional in the Marshall High School Home Ec Department from 1970-1976. Elsie enjoyed sewing, cooking, quilting, knitting, decorating cakes and entertaining her family. She was also an avid bird watcher. Elsie was always interested in and proud of her Russian heritage. Elsie lived at home in Marshall until moving to the Morningside Heights Care Center in 2009. She died at the care center on Sunday, March 25, 2012.
She is survived by her daughter Martha (and Roger) Molde of Montevideo, son John Hokanson of Maple Grove, daughter-in-law Debbie Hokanson of Cottonwood, six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son, Joel, husband Hilding, siblings Helen Speakman, Mary Osman, Nellie Gust, Lily Humanansky, Andrew Osman, Olga Osman and Rose Osman.
