Emma Mary (Loyson) Hennen was born on December 15, 1913, in Grandview Township to Ernest and Louise (Beernaert) Loyson. She grew up on a farm near Ghent and was baptized, received first communion and confirmed at St. Eloi Catholic Church in Ghent. On November 5, 1935, she was united in marriage to Arnold H. Hennen in Ghent. The couple farmed and raised their family in Westerheim Township until 1972 when they retired and moved to Marshall. Emma worked at a variety of ladies clothing stores including Stones, Ehlers and Millers. Emma knitted and crocheted many afghans and quilted many quilts. She was also an avid bridge player. Emma enjoyed travelling to see her family. At age 85, she took a special trip to her father’s birth place in Belgium, spent time in Rome and other locations. Her family was most important to her. Emma was the last of her generation and became the matriarch of the Hennen and Loyson families. She was a longtime member of the American Legion Auxiliary and St. Anne’s Altar Society in Ghent.

Emma died on Wednesday, January 26, 2011, at the Avera Marshall Care Center in Marshall.

Emma is survived by son Ernest (and Jane) of Marshall, their children Janet, Rhonda, Brian and Marc, son Daniel (and Judy) of Marshall, their daughter Nancy, son Father Joe of Hilo, HI, son John (and Mary Joan) of Marshall, their children Brenda, Jodi and Chad, daughter Jeannie (and Ken) Saffert of Mankato, their children Alan, Lori, Paul and Steven, son Bob (and Cara) of Orlando, FL, their son Andrew, 30 great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Arnold, siblings Henry, Art (and Julia), Victoria (and Vincent) Hennen, Ray (and Juliet and later Mary). Memorials preferred to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society or charity of the donor's choice.
